Choose the game that fits your room

Start with First Encounters for a room-based introduction, Cubism or Puzzling Places for puzzles, and Demeo for tabletop strategy. Starship Home uses your room as a spaceship; Laser Dance needs an active play area. All six list Quest 3 and Quest 3S support in Meta’s store metadata, checked on 13 October 2026.

This shortlist covers games with a documented mixed reality or passthrough mode. The recommendations match published features to different uses; they are not a playtest ranking. Follow our mixed reality setup guide before the first session.

Choose by play style

A seat and a puzzle

Look at Cubism for geometric shapes or Puzzling Places for detailed miniature locations. Sitting support matters more here than a large empty floor.

A game night

Choose Demeo for cooperative strategy. Puzzling Places also documents local MR co-op. Check how many headsets and copies your chosen mode requires.

The room becomes the level

Try First Encounters, Starship Home or Laser Dance. The room layout and clear movement space are part of the purchase decision.

Quest 3 and 3S game compatibility and room comparison

Game Quest 3 / 3S Room and interaction Choose it for
First Encounters Both Roomscale; controllers A first MR arcade session
Cubism Both Sitting, standing or roomscale; hands or controllers Fitting colored blocks into shapes
Puzzling Places Both Sitting, standing or roomscale; hands, controllers or gaze listed Detailed 3D jigsaws and co-op
Demeo Both Tabletop play; controllers or hand tracking Cooperative dungeon strategy
Starship Home Both Roomscale; hands or controllers Decorating and exploring a room-sized starship
Laser Dance Both Roomscale; physical dodging and upper-body tracking An active laser obstacle course

Model support is checked against each current store listing. Play modes and controls come from store details and developer documentation. An input option does not establish eye tracking on Quest 3 or 3S. Check the exact app’s requirements, access settings and current listing before purchase.

Six mixed reality games, with the tradeoff for each

First Encounters: start with the room itself

Meta’s First Encounters is a short arcade introduction in which creatures enter your physical room. It is a useful first choice when you want to see why a room scan matters before committing to a bigger game.

Choose it when: you have a clear roomscale area and want a straightforward controller-led introduction. A successful demo does not prove that every MR app has the same space or input requirements.

Cubism: puzzles without a room-sized level

Cubism asks you to assemble colored blocks into increasingly complex shapes. The developer confirms mixed reality and hand tracking in the standalone Quest version. That makes it a good candidate for someone who wants to manipulate a compact puzzle while keeping the room visible.

The catch: its PC VR version does not support those MR and hand tracking features, including when a Quest uses a Link cable. Buy the version that matches the experience you want.

Puzzling Places: build a miniature real location

Puzzling Places turns scanned places into 3D jigsaws. Choose it if you prefer reconstructing buildings and scenes to Cubism’s abstract shapes. Its documented sitting mode makes it an option for a smaller activity space; local MR co-op adds a shared puzzle alternative.

Check the edition: additional puzzle packs are separate from the base purchase. The developer’s September 2026 update lets the Quest version remain in MR from startup instead of briefly switching to a black background.

Demeo: tabletop strategy with the room visible

Demeo is a cooperative dungeon crawler for up to four players. Resolution Games documents its Mixed Reality 2.0 mode and hand tracking. The tabletop format suits people who want strategy and conversation rather than moving across the room.

Check the title: this recommendation concerns the original Demeo. Demeo Battles and Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked are separate games. Do not transfer this page’s compatibility or feature claims to another listing.

Starship Home: make your room part of the story

Starship Home uses your room as a customizable starship and sends you to collect and care for alien plants. Choose it when the appeal is a room transformation and ongoing adventure, rather than a compact puzzle.

The catch: plan for roomscale play and a useful room scan. It is a different commitment from putting a puzzle in front of a chair. The current store metadata lists Quest 3 and 3S.

Laser Dance: match the purchase to the floor space

Laser Dance creates laser patterns around your room that you dodge and crawl through. Its developer specifies a shortest path of at least 3 m / 10 ft between two virtual wall buttons. That is more useful than guessing from a room’s overall square footage.

The catch: it currently uses one room on one floor. Avoid stairs; the developer says the room mesh can misread them. Upper-body tracking detects hands, arms and back, but not legs. Meta currently labels the listing Early Access.

Before you buy or launch a mixed reality game

1. Verify the versionConfirm Quest 3 or 3S and the specific MR mode.
2. Match the roomCheck sitting support or the app’s movement requirements.
3. Prepare the spaceComplete boundary and Space Setup when prompted.
  • Read the listing’s player modes and input options, rather than assuming every MR game supports hands.
  • For co-op, check copies, accounts and space requirements for the exact multiplayer mode.
  • Keep the activity space clear and follow the app’s setup instructions.

If the camera view is poor or a game stays virtual, our Quest passthrough guide separates lighting, tracking and app-version problems. A PC VR setup is a separate decision; a PC store version need not carry the standalone game’s MR features.

Quest mixed reality games FAQ

Do all six games support Quest 3S?

Yes, Meta’s current store metadata lists Quest 3S and Quest 3 for each. Recheck the live listing before purchase because requirements can change.

Which should I look at for seated play?

Cubism and Puzzling Places explicitly list sitting support. Demeo’s tabletop format is another candidate. First Encounters, Starship Home and Laser Dance call for a roomscale space.

Does a passthrough headset make Steam games mixed reality?

No. Developers must support the feature in that version. Cubism is a documented example where its standalone Quest and PC VR features differ.
