Destek V4: status checked 24 September 2026

Consider the V4 only if you already have a compatible phone and a working Cardboard-style app. Its linked listing specifies 4.5–6.0-inch phones, and Destek no longer listed the V4 at our September check. Third-party stock is unconfirmed. For a new purchase, compare a viewer sized for your phone or a standalone headset for tracked-controller games.

The Destek V4 holds your phone behind two lenses. Its older 4.5–6.0-inch listing range makes phone fit the first buying check. A Bluetooth accessory or comfortable strap cannot help if your phone is too large or your chosen app no longer runs.

This review covers phone requirements, the V4’s reported lenses and comfort, audio and app options. Read the dated status notes before the original comparisons: Destek now lists the V5, while several apps and alternative headsets mentioned below have been retired.

Product status and source notes

The Destek V4 is a phone-based VR viewer: it has no screen or electronics of its own and simply holds your phone behind two lenses. Destek's official store no longer lists the V4. Its successor, the Destek V5, is listed for 5.0–7.0-inch phones at $39.99, but it was marked sold out when we checked. Whether the V4 is still in stock at third-party retailers is unconfirmed.

The V4 still works with any phone that fits, but the listing we link to is for 4.5–6.0-inch phones, and according to Apple's comparison page, every non-folding iPhone Apple currently sells has a display of 6.1 inches or larger. Phone VR software has also thinned out: Google stopped selling Cardboard viewers in 2021, and YouTube's Cardboard mode is Android-only. For real VR today, look at a standalone headset such as the Meta Quest 3S, which Meta lists from $349.99 (price as of 24 September 2026).

I wanted to take an in-depth look at the Destek v4 VR Headset to see how it stacks up to the competition.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Mobile VR Headset

Mobile VR is pretty dope, but it isn’t for everyone. The technology can put you in outer space, on a roller coaster, or a shark cage. The trade-off for these experiences is that some people get motion sickness, while others get headaches.

The best mobile VR customer to me is someone new to using the technology and wants to test it out.

These headsets let you try out VR without dropping a serious amount of coin, but you should consider the following before buying one.

  • Mobile device - You should take your smartphone into consideration before buying a headset. Your device should be able to fit inside of the headset you use. Older mobile headsets like the V4 fit phones up to about 6 inches, but most current phones are larger, so check the supported screen size against your phone before buying.
  • Goals - What do you want to do with VR? Do you want in-depth games? Do you want to watch 360 videos? The goals of what you want to do with mobile VR will dictate what headset you choose.
  • Budget - You should take your budget into consideration with VR. There are devices for every budget, but the bells and whistles will change accordingly.
  • iOS or Android? - VR is better developed on the Android platform than iOS, but Apple users can still use it. If you use an iPhone, you need to consider what is available as it’s limited when compared to the competition.
  • Controller or no controller - A lot of mobile VR headsets come with controllers. If you’re using iOS, these are virtually useless, as iPhones need special controllers. If you’re on Android, they’re a nice touch and can enhance your VR experience.

Introducing the Destek v4 VR Headset

Destek’s v4 VR headset is a premium mobile VR headset from the company. I love the new look and feel.

Destek has implemented IPD adjustment, more nasal space, and lenses to reduce eye strain.

This results in a very comfortable experience. The headset is perfect for those looking for an entry-level experience.

Specifications

  • Weight: 13.4 ounces, according to Destek’s V5 product page (this review originally listed 14.9 ounces)
  • An anti-blue light coating on lenses
  • 103-degree field of view (FOV), as advertised at launch; we couldn’t confirm this on a current Destek page
  • Touch button

Pros

  • The anti-blue light coating is good for preventing eye strain
  • Nice build quality
  • FoV is wider than much of the competition
  • Comfortable to wear for long periods

Cons

  • Lack of controller
  • No software launcher from Destek
  • Phones larger than 6 inches aren’t supported

Features and Benefits

Video

Destek has done a great job with the v4’s visual quality. These lenses are fantastic.

The 103-degree FoV is better than many other sets and the anti-blue light coating keeps my eyes from getting strained. The end result is great video quality.

Audio

There isn’t any built-in audio with this headset. While that’s a bit of a bummer, I was able to easily hook my headphones up to my phone. That is the best way to get audio, as the headset itself does block out a lot of sounds.

Comfort

The Destek v4 is comfortable, allowing you to use it for prolonged periods of time. I found the head strap fits nicely on my melon, with the foam giving a firm seal on my face. I also never had any issues with fog due to use, which I can’t say for some of Destek’s competition.

Build Quality

All of Destek’s headsets are well-built. The v4 stands up to this legacy and feels solid without being a brick.

I’ve dropped this device a few times and while it’s popped open, it never fell apart or broke in any way.

This is interesting, as the headset seems to be built of generic plastic, foam, and acrylic.

Software

There isn’t any proprietary software with this headset. Instead, you’re able to load apps from your phone’s app store. On iOS you’ll find some limited apps, with things better developed on Android. I recommend checking out the Go VR Player, Google Cardboard, and Discovery VR apps for some of the best VR video content.

Note: When we checked, the Go VR Player App Store page returned a "not found" error and the Discovery VR website no longer loaded, so treat both as gone. The Google Cardboard app is still on the App Store (iOS 15 or later) and on Android. On Android, the YouTube app can also play 360 and VR180 videos in Cardboard mode; Google says this mode isn't supported on iPhone.

Full Experience

When you take all of the features mentioned above and combine them, you get a good mobile VR experience. I love how sturdy the thing feels and the excellent lens quality.

If I’m going to gripe about anything, it’s the lack of built-in audio and app from Destek. Some other VR companies like Homido have their own apps that forward users to good VR apps. That would have been nice to see here.

Alternatives to the Destek v4 VR Headset

I’ve found that mobile VR is generally the same no matter what you use for a headset.

This means that there are a lot of other choices if you don’t want to buy the Destek v4.

I’ve put together the following list of good alternatives for you to consider.

Note: These alternatives are also dated. The Oculus Go was discontinued in 2020: according to Wikipedia, the store stopped accepting new Go apps and app updates after 4 December 2020, and system software fixes ended in 2022. Polaroid's official store no longer lists a VR headset, and we couldn't confirm current availability of the Shinecon model below. Meta's current standalone headsets are the Quest 3S and Quest 3; see our Quest 3 vs Quest 3S comparison.

Polaroid Virtual Reality Headset

I am a big fan of the Polaroid VR Headset. It has great build quality and brings the Polaroid brand, which is globally known. I think that the Polaroid stacks up well to the Destek, even if its field of view (FOV) isn’t as wide.

Similarities

  • Good build quality
  • Excellent lenses
  • Works with Android or iOS

Differences

  • FoV isn’t as wide
  • Fogs up a bit with prolonged use
  • Sound doesn’t travel as well through speaker holes

Oculus Go (Discontinued)

Okay, this one isn’t a mobile headset, but I love it. It is wireless and has the Oculus ecosystem built in, giving the best VR experiences you’ll find. I have dumped dozens of hours into mine and I use it daily.

If you want to put in a bit more of an investment, you can’t go wrong with the Go. Read my full review of the headset here.

Similarities

  • Very comfortable
  • Lenses are high quality
  • 3 degrees of freedom

Differences

  • Doesn’t require a smartphone
  • Uses Oculus ecosystem
  • Includes a remote

Shinecon VR Headset

Shinecon puts out quality headsets, and this one is no exception.

The headset has built-in headphones, is comfortable, and compatible with all smartphones up to 6 inches. It includes a controller (which kinda sucks), but is great for using your smartphone. I have this one in a travel bag for use on trips for the kids.

Similarities

  • Great quality lenses with wide FoV
  • Comfortable head strap
  • Android/iOS compatible

Differences

  • Includes 3D audio headphones
  • Has a controller
  • Includes IPD adjustment Dials

Conclusion

I recommend the Destek v4 VR Headset to new users of mobile VR.

It doesn’t have a bunch of frills, but it gets the job done. I’m especially a fan of the blue light blocking lenses, which don’t strain my eyes. If you’re an entry-level VR user, you should definitely consider this headset.

Note: This recommendation dates from the original review. Destek has since replaced the V4 with the V5, and the V4 only fits phones up to about 6 inches, which rules out most current phones. If you still want a phone viewer, check that your phone's screen size is supported; if you want a full VR experience, a standalone headset like the Meta Quest 3S is the better buy.
