Vantage.TV and the Coachella VR App: What They Were

Can you still use Vantage.tv for Coachella VR?

The 24 September 2026 check found no running Vantage.tv VR service and could not confirm that the 2016 Coachella app was still offered. Coachella’s YouTube stream was the alternative identified. A supported headset can show it on a large virtual screen, but the research did not confirm a 360° Coachella stream for 2026. Do not buy a PC or headset expecting access to the original app.

Looking for the Coachella VR app can lead you to instructions for a service from 2016. Before buying a headset or a gaming PC for it, check what that experience actually offered and whether it is still available. Watching a stream on a virtual screen is also different from a 360° festival recording.

This page explains Vantage.tv’s original service, the Coachella app and equipment requirements. Use the dated status notes below to distinguish the historical VR experience from ordinary livestream viewing.

Vantage.tv and the Coachella VR app: status checked 24 September 2026

Still available? No. We found no sign that Vantage.tv still runs VR events: the vantage.tv domain no longer hosts the service, and we could not confirm that the Coachella VR app from 2016 is still offered. The cardboard viewers bundled with 2016 tickets were based on Google Cardboard, which the Google Store stopped selling in March 2021.

What to use instead: Coachella now streams both weekends on YouTube. The YouTube VR app runs on Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro and Quest 3, PICO 4 and Apple Vision Pro, so you can watch the stream on a large virtual screen. We could not confirm a 360-degree Coachella stream for 2026.

What was Vantage.tv?

Vantage.tv produced VR experiences around live events, including music festivals and esports. Its aim was to let remote viewers look around an event through a headset instead of watching a single camera angle.

This is historical coverage of that service. The September 2026 check did not find a running Vantage.tv platform, so buying one of the VR headsets described in the original article does not restore access to its old events.

The Coachella VR app

The Coachella VR app was a festival companion experience created with Vantage.tv in 2016. It included site tours and other immersive content for people interested in that edition of the festival. Our virtual reality guides cover how headset viewing works more generally.

Coachella teamed up with Vantage.tv in 2016 to bring the festival into people’s homes. According to Consequence, the mobile app for iOS, Android and Samsung Gear VR offered virtual tours of the 2016 festival site, 360-degree panoramic photos from previous editions, interviews and performances. Ticket packages that year included a cardboard VR viewer, and YouTube livestreamed weekend-two performances in 360 degrees, according to Wikipedia.

The event is extremely influential and still hosts major stars: the 2026 edition ran over two weekends in April.

Virtual reality equipment

Choose equipment for the app you can use today. The original Coachella mobile app used phone-based viewers; it did not require a VR-ready laptop. A laptop matters if you separately want to run PC VR software.

Some laptops that worked well with virtual reality at the time were the Alienware M13 R3, the Razer Blade 15, MSI GS65 Stealth-006, and the Origin Customized EVO15-S Laptops. These are older models; our VR-ready laptop guide covers current options.

The original article also mentioned the Oculus Rift, Sony PlayStation VR, and HTC Vive. These were different platforms, rather than interchangeable requirements for the Coachella mobile app. Check the supported devices of the viewing app before choosing hardware.

Note: all three headsets are discontinued. Meta ended the Rift line in 2021, the original PlayStation VR in 2024, and the original Vive no longer appears on HTC's product page. For watching streamed events you no longer need a PC at all: a standalone headset such as the Meta Quest 3S (also on Amazon) runs the YouTube app from the Meta Horizon Store on its own. A gaming PC or laptop only matters for PC VR games.

Best CPUs for VR

CPU selection matters for a PC VR setup. It does not unlock the old Coachella app, and it is not required for a standalone headset’s YouTube app. If PC VR games are also part of your plan, our CPU guide for VR covers that separate decision.

Some of the best were the Intel Core i9-9900K, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, and the Intel Core i7-9700. Again, the equipment being used, specifically the laptop, determined which CPU worked best for your system. For PC VR with a Quest headset, Meta’s Link requirements list an Intel i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X as the minimum and recommend an Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 class CPU with 16 GB of RAM.

For festival viewing, confirm the stream and app first. The September 2026 research identified YouTube viewing but did not confirm a 360° Coachella stream for 2026. A virtual cinema screen and a recording you can look around are different experiences.
