You can go ahead and use the virtual reality headset, anywhere and anytime you want. Keep in mind that you would need to attach your earphones for sound, which makes it a perfect option if you are sharing your room. Get ready for endless hours of fun, with its 5-hour battery life. 

If you are a video game enthusiast and are expecting this headset to match up to the PSVR or the Oculus Rift, then you are barking up the wrong tree.

The AuraVisor VR Headset is in a different headset category compared to other headsets. Although this headset does link to the Google Play store, it won’t have all the top-notch games that you see on services like Steam.

The good thing about the AuraVisor VR Headset is the free games functionality and a reasonable price tag. VR games and headsets can be pricey which is why this one is perfect for students or anyone trying to save a few bucks.

Overall Packaging Presentation

The product packaging is simple in black with a picture of the headset on it and listing of features at the back of the box. Heavy internal padding helps to keep the product and its accessories safe from any harm or damage.

What’s in the Box?

When you open the box, you are greeted with a headset, head strap, controller, and cable to charge the headset.

One thing I appreciated about this headset is the fact that it is one complete package. There is no need to do any extra shopping since the headset already comes with the controller you need to use with it. Most other headsets make you pay extra for all other accessories or equipment which you need with the headset, but fortunately the AuraVisor gives it all to you in one package.

Specifications

The AuraVisor VR Headset comes with a 1.8GHz quad-core Rockchip RK3288 processor which you typically see in tablets and notebook computers. With a high resolution/UHD video decoder and Mali graphics capability, you can look forward to it giving off a great VR experience. 

Though you can hook up the headset to an HDMI Input, it’s not essential. You can simply use it as a standalone device.

Setup

Setting up the AuraVisor virtual reality headset is quite simple as it fortunately comes with a quick setup guide. There are six steps in the guide which you need to follow to get your headset up and running which include:

• Charge your headset fully
• Press the power button on the AuraVisor headset
• Once you arrive to the Lounge, click on Settings and hit ok on the headset
• Turn on Bluetooth and pair your game controller to the headset
• Connect and pair the controller to WIFI
• Log into your Google Play Store and YouTube account

I found the set up to be easy and user friendly. Although the charging can take a bit of time to do, the rest of the process was painless and when the controller was connected it became a lot easier to use the headset.

The Room

The optical lenses are adjustable on this headset and the depth of field sliders make it easier for me to set up my viewing especially since I am a glasses wearer.

Design and Comfort

The faceplate on the headset is also detachable and if the one that comes with the headset doesn’t work for your face, you can get better fitting options. The headset comes with a strap that goes around the head and helps keep the device snug and in place. Weighing 1.05 pounds, you can easily move your head without the headset coming on as too heavy.

Performance

I enjoy that the AuraVisor VR Headset is compatible with some of my favorite apps like YouTube and the Google Play Store. Being able to connect simply with the WIFI and browse my selection of games or movies make it easier to use. 

The fact that it’s wireless, gives me the luxury to move about my room as I desire. The VR content that I can watch with the headset is amazing and I love being able to see live sports and concerts with it.

Controllers

I found the controller to be very similar to the Xbox 360 controller. The controller includes a thumb pad, two directional toggles, an X, A, B, and Y button, plus bumpers on the top of it. The controller is wireless and connects to the headset via Bluetooth. To charge the controller all you need to do is use the cord that came with the headset and plug it into your computer.

Games

Games do not come pre-downloaded onto the headset and instead you need to log into your own accounts to get games. The Google Play store offers a wide variety of games you can play on the headset. You can even use the HDMI cable in the package to play VR games via Steam by simply plugging it into your computer.

Beyond Games

Besides games, the headset is compatible with the following apps:

• Sky Go
• BBC Player
• Google Chrome

With these other apps you can do more than just play games on the headset. It allows you to watch some of your favorite YouTube videos or browse the web on Chrome. I love the Netflix compatibility and it allows me to have my personal space, without being interrupted by anyone. It also helps reduce outside noise and screen blocking due to any reason.

Update: Current versions of these apps may no longer support Android 5.1 (see the note under Key Features), so this app list reflects the headset when it was reviewed, not what you can install today.

Warranty

The headset does come with a 12-month warranty in the event of a manufacturing fault. If you need to redeem the warranty on your headset all you need to do is contact customer service and make a request.

Update: We couldn’t find an active manufacturer support page for the AuraVisor, so check who would honour the warranty before buying from any remaining seller.

When looking on the internet for reviews on the headset, I found some rather positive mentions for the AuraVisor VR Headset. Many reviewers mentioned that the headset was affordable, which I have to agree with and makes for a good feature.

If you take a look at other options, you can see that there are three major alternatives to the AuraVisor Headset. All three have since been discontinued; the sections below are kept for reference, and current options are listed under what to buy instead.

PlayStation VR

Did you know that Playstation VR is cheaper as compared to the AuraVisor VR Headset? Well, your luck continues as it even comes loaded in a bundle with the PSVR system, Playstation Camera, a copy of Playstation VR worlds and two Playstation Move Motion Controllers.

The system has over 200 games, which is a lot more than what the AuraVisor offers. The PSVR is also home to Astro Bot Rescue Mission, a winner at The Game Awards.

The PSVR weighs 1.3 pounds and is 7.4 x 7.3 x 10.9 inches. In order to use the headset, users do need to own a PlayStation 4 and the controller that comes with it, where with the AuraVisor you don’t need any previous equipment to use the headset. Like the AuraVisor headset users can use the PSVR to watch movies and the headset has a Cinematic Mode feature.

If you own a PlayStation 4 and enjoy the games that go along with it then looking into the PlayStation VR is worth it. The headset comes with basically everything you need except the console and the wide range of games will make sure you aren’t bored, plus the price is good for a headset that needs a console to work with it.

Update: According to Wikipedia, the original PlayStation VR was sold from 2016 to 2024 and has been replaced by PlayStation VR2. It also works on a PS5 with a camera adapter, but Sony’s free adapter offer ended on 26 November 2024. PS VR2 needs a PS5 (it doesn’t work with a PS4), according to PlayStation’s product page.

Oculus Rift

The Oculus Rift works alongside your desktop or laptop. The Oculus Rift was originally funded via a Kickstarter campaign in 2012. PC makers such as Alienware, Asus and Dell used to sell bundles pairing the Rift with a VR-ready desktop.

The Rift offers a 2160 x 1200 OLED display, which works out to 1080 x 1200 pixels per eye, with a field of view of about 110 degrees.

The Rift package includes the sensor, remote, cables, and an Xbox One controller. If you are looking for a console base experience with the Rift, you are in for a treat as it’s compatible with the Xbox One.

Users of an Xbox One can stream some of their already owned titles to the Rift, but it doesn’t compare to the experience you get with the PSVR. The Rift has two game engines, Unity and Unreal Engine. Users can also buy games via the Oculus VR site and the VR section on Steam.

If you are a hardcore computer gamer, then the Rift is a nice headset to look at, but the price is pretty steep. Your computer will need to run on Windows 7 or higher with a processor greater than or equivalent to an Intel i5-4590 and have at least 8GB of RAM.

Not all of this is needed to use the AuraVisor which is also cheaper.

Update: The Rift is no longer sold. Road to VR reported in September 2020 that Facebook would end the Rift product line in 2021 to focus on standalone Quest headsets.

HTC Vive

The HTC Vive has over 2,000 titles for users to experience with the headset and it is powered by SteamVR where users can look through over 1,500 games. 

The Vive has a 1080 x 1200 pixels per eye resolution with a 110-degree field of view. It comes with safety features such as a Chaperone play area that warns the user if they stray from the play area.

The deal with Vive is positively loaded for you as a user though! For the dollars you shell out, you do get a bunch of features in the Vive. The fact that they give you two different subscriptions to try out is great. You also get a nose rest and headphones with the VR headset, which don’t come with most headsets. 

Like the Rift, if you love PC gaming then you should check out this headset. The games alone are great but other content, like being able to use Google Earth VR, is awesome.

The downside is you need to stay within a certain perimeter or the system will freak out, which is not an issue with AuraVisor.

Update: The original Vive has been discontinued too. In 2019, UploadVR reported that HTC was retiring it to make way for the Vive Cosmos.

What to Buy Instead

If you liked the idea of the AuraVisor, a headset that works on its own without a phone or a computer, the modern equivalent is a standalone headset with its own app store and tracked controllers. Prices below are as of 24 September 2026.

Verdict

The AuraVisor VR Headset fit perfect into my busy life and small space. Since the headset was wireless, I was able to freely move around and not be limited by cords that needed to be plugged into a computer.

The headset was perfect for both my gaming and movie or television viewing needs. The best feature of this headset was the affordable price, making it accessible to anyone who wants to try a VR headset out without the costly price.

Update: That verdict reflects the headset as it was when reviewed. Today its old Android version and the lack of an active manufacturer page make it hard to recommend; a current standalone headset such as the Meta Quest 3S is the safer choice.

Can you still buy the AuraVisor?

We couldn't find a current manufacturer page or an active new listing for it, so treat it as discontinued. Any unit you find is likely old stock or used, running Android 5.1.

How do I get games or add more content?

Originally, you could simply visit the Android Play Store. Current Google Play services need Android 7.0 or later, so newer apps and updates may not be available on the headset's Android 5.1.

Can I watch 3D movies?

Yes, the headset works side by side 3D which means you can watch 3D movies.

What is the battery life?
