Things to Consider before buying a Virtual Reality Headset

Virtual Reality headsets are technology advanced goggles that let you become virtually present where ever you want.

They work together with smartphone applications to enhance games, learning experiences and more. Virtual reality headsets give you the ability to become actively involved from the comfort of your home.

Should you buy one?

Of course, you should, virtual reality headsets can have benefits for everyone. Regardless of whether you’re a gamer, student, or just want to virtually explore, using a virtual headset can lead to amazing experiences.

If you don’t already own a smartphone or PC, you may not want to purchase a VR headset.

Before purchasing your virtual reality headset, you should consider the 3 C’s:

Compatibility

Checking for all devices is important to ensure your specific headset will work well with them.

The only devices you need to use a VR headset, is a smartphone or a PC.

Most headsets are compatible with IOS and Android smartphones. If you decide to use a PC, you should check for more specific compatibility.

Comfort

All headsets aren’t made equal, you should check the features to make sure you will be comfortable wearing it. An uncomfortable headset can take a lot away from your virtual reality experience.

Check for quality cushioning and design for a more comfortable experience. Adjustable head straps and lenses are also great for comfort.

Cost

I noticed that costs for headsets can vary greatly regardless of quality. You can easily overspend for one.

Pay attention to the cost of the headset and be sure not to go over your budget.

Presenting the Homido Grab Virtual Reality Headset

Homido Grab Virtual Reality Headset for Smartphones VR Education VR Games and 3D Movie for ISO and Android, Compatible with iPhone and Android Phones Augmented Reality Headset(Black)
  • Wide Compatibility: compatibly fits for all smartphones' Screen size between 4 to 5.7 inch such as Samsung Galaxy Note 5/4/, Galaxy S7 edge/Galaxy S6 S5 S4; Apple iPhone 7 7S 7 plus 6S 6 plus 5C 5S; LG/Sony Xperia/Huawei/Nexus/Asus/HTC etc. ( the max length of smart phone is 159.6mm and max width is 79.3mm)
  • Capacitive action button to interact with VR apps, VR games, VR contents. Control Easily

The Homido Grab Virtual Reality Headset is an amazing value, for all the features it comes with.

It opens doors to thousands of games and experiences through its large selection of compatible apps.

The Homido VR Stream App and the Homido VR Center App offers hundreds of apps compatible with this device. It’s also Google certified so you can use it with Google Cardboard apps, giving you even more options to choose from.

It’s lightweight so it’s perfect for kids and on the go use. Plus, you can use this headset with a lot of different smartphone devices, no matter whether its IOS or Android.

But they don’t come with head straps, so you must manually hold it to your head. Personally, I would feel better if it had head straps so that I could use it hands-free. But you may not mind as you can easily share the device with friends.

Although the plastic material of the headset is very durable and good for kids, it’s not very comfortable against the face.

With all the features of a simple VR headset and a great price, it’s still a valuable product.

However, I wish it was more suited for long time viewing.

Cons

Features & Benefits:

Here’s a more in-depth view of the Homido Grab Virtual Reality headset’s features and benefits.

Lightweight

At only 8.5 ounces this headset is very lightweight. It’s easy to carry around and use on the go.

Wide Phone Compatibility

This headset works well with a large variety of phones. Compatibility is based on the screen size, as long as your screen is between 4 and 5.7 inches it will comfortably fit in this headset.

Great Field of view

The Homido Grab VR headset comes with a 100-degree field of view, for a more immersive and realistic experience.

Action Button

The capacitive action button is an awesome feature that lets you press a physical button on the headset and interact with apps. You won’t have to worry about directing both the phone and the headset, and it allows your device to be compatible with Google Cardboard Apps.

Homido Apps

Homido VR Stream is an app that you can download from the App Store or Play Store. It is a virtual reality player that allows you to seamlessly stream video. You can easily search through videos without ever leaving your virtual world. It also collaborates with Homido VR Center so you can share your favorites between apps.

The Homido Virtual Reality Center app is the real-life changer. The app updates every week to add more compatible videos and apps. It currently features over 2000 apps and videos available for use with your device. The Homido Virtual Reality Center will give you access to thousands of experiences all from one app.

Google Cardboard Apps

Google Cardboard app is available for free for both IOS and Android devices. Like the Homido Virtual Reality Center App it gives you access to many virtual reality experiences and games, through different apps.

Alternatives

Although the Homido Grab is great for the price and features, it still may not be exactly what you are looking for, if not below are a few alternatives.

The Google Cardboard VR Patented VR headset

Google Cardboard VR Patented Headset is very similar to the Homido in price.

Both headsets let you utilize the Google Cardboard app allowing you to access lots of games and apps.

It also has a feature that the Homido Grab is missing, which is a head strap. The Google Cardboard VR Patented VR headset come with an adjustable nylon head strap that makes the headset fit more comfortable and is a lot easier to handle.

This headset also allows you to adjust the lenses and is great for people who wear glasses.

If you decide that the Homido isn’t for you this could be a great alternative, but just like the Homido Grab because of its material makeup, it could be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Both headsets are made by Homido, so they will both work well with the Homido VR center and the Homido VR Stream app, so you can do more.

You can use almost any phone with both headsets, as long as the screen size is between 4 and 5.7 inches.

The VR Headset Homido V2 is a little pricier than the Homido Grab, but for good reason.

It lets you adjust the pupil and object distance, plus it has a low-pressure head strap for a more comfortable experience.

To add to this comfort, it also comes with a sponge area for a better feel while wearing them.

Homido V2 is the best alternative to the Homido Grab, it’s like their advanced older brother.

Conclusion

After reviewing the Homido Grab VR Headset, I decided its decent quality for the price.

It comes with a large variety of apps to choose from because its Google Certified and Homido offer a huge variety of apps from its own app store.

I also like that it can fit almost any phone.

It’s a perfect device for short term use and can be an amazing tool for children. It’s lightweight and durable so its likely to last for a while.

However, its lack of a head strap and cushioning can make your experience uncomfortable. But, its lack of head straps also makes it easier to share with friends.

If you are looking for an affordable device with the basics or this is your first headset, I say go for it. There are better devices out there, but It may cost you more.
